There's nothing like exploring the style of a great artist to fully grasp their genius. Here's a vibrant painting created using the scraping technique favored by the brilliant Pierre Soulages in the 1960s. A layer of black paint, heavily textured and still fluid, is scraped away to reveal the underlying layer of intense, fiery red. Key Soulages paintings from this period now fetch millions of dollars. Here's a warm and dynamic painting, inspired by my favorite abstract painter. It's not a Soulages (I wish it were!), but it can be yours for a few dollars less ;-) By the way, if you're ever in the south of France, don't miss the magnificent Soulages Museum in Rodez, or the Soulages Pavilion at the Fabre Museum in Montpellier.
