Diptych of 2 canvases, 40 x 30 in., in textured acrylic.

Paintings designed as a representation of minimalist monochrome pictograms, white or black, on a richly marbled contrasting background.

Long before the first Babylonian or Egyptian pictograms representing spoken language (4000 to 3000 years BCE), the very first attested simple symbols were used to record quantities during exchanges of goods — perhaps pebbles or dots, sticks or lines.

The paintings are sold together to be displayed side by side as a diptych.

Since the sides of the pictures are painted, they are ready to hang without frames.
